Lessons for Life Newsletter January 2009
www.lessonsforlife.org.uk

Happy New Year from us and all the Lessons for Life students - and a huge thanks to all our supporters and everyone who has helped make 2008 a successful year. You have made it possible for nearly 350 students in Uganda to get an education.

We expect further progress in 2009 and to be able to help even more children with their education but still rely on word of mouth for publicity. So please pass this newsletter on to your family, friends and colleagues.

We hope you enjoy reading about our progress in 2008, the new Busoco School project and students who require sponsors for a chance of education beyond primary school.

We send our wishes for 2009 to be great for you and the kids you are making so happy.

Review of 2008

We initiated three projects in 2008, two of which are enabling over 200 children to stay in primary education with the third providing vocational training to 120 children.

We have also taken on sponsorship of 16 children to enable them to go onto secondary education. This is a really life-changing opportunity for children who are often at a particularly vulnerable time of their life.

None of this could have happened without our donors and volunteers so heartfelt thanks goes to them. We wish you could all see how happy you are making the children and their families.  Please read more.

Appeal for Busoco School ProjectBusoco School

We have a particularly exciting project to support a brand new school. Located on a remote peninsular just outside Kampala, Busoco Primary School will give over 200 children in two communities a chance to learn that they have so far been denied due lack of a nearby school.

The school is the brainchild of one of our in-country representatives and has been built with a grant from the US embassy. Now it needs ongoing funding for running costs and one-off funding for equipment and start up costs.

Students hoping for sponsors

The school year in Uganda has just finished and the children are anxiously awaiting results. Most of them face an uncertain future but none more so than those finishing primary school. Only 1 out of every 7 children in Uganda can currently go on to secondary school.

We have 22 students looking for sponsors to enable them to go on to secondary school in February. Please read their stories.
